That was great! I missed the Washington kids last year.
I had a conversation with a three-trip veteran from my youth group. He dislikes when people say things like "This trip will change YOUR life" and "The best trip of YOUR life". He says it is hype, and doesn't like being told how to think/feel/react. I think he is being overcritical, but your ending did remind me of him.
Is he right? Is the focus of this trip (and trips like it) too often promoted as a rewarding experience for the participant? Does it matter?

I think he's being too critical. I don't know anybody in 18 years that could honestly say their perspective view of the world and their own life didn't change at least a little bit as a direct result of the trip.
But, for the hair-splitters out there I can rephrase and say, "there is a likely chance that some perspective and personal views may skew slightly one way or another. Of course, this changed view is entirely up to your own experiences and relationship with God. Results may vary. Subject to quantity on hand. Some restrictions may apply. One vote per household per day".
Nah...I'll just stick with THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!

Let's make it clear that "bathing" in the barrels filled with water is frowned upon. Just because we are leaving doesn't mean other groups aren't using that same water.
